Getting my body sunshine ready
Are you sunshine ready?
For me it takes that first sweaty and uncomfortable day spent in jeans to make me panic and take action.
I am loving the way that the sunshine has coincided with being able to meet another household in your garden AND the Easter holidays. Well so far anyway…
On Monday I was a bit hot & bothered as I was wearing jeans, jumper and trainers. By lunchtime I needed to drop a layer but I couldn’t. My summer sandals, flip flops and skirts were all up in the loft and I had too much to do at the time. I thought that it was a lucky coincidence we had sunshine….
By Monday evening my face felt greasy. A long day spent outside in the sun & wind (it was a strong wind up here in Yorkshire) and it needed a deep clean to prevent clogged pores and breakouts. So as soon as I had put the boys to bed I took 15 minutes to treat my skin. I did a double cleanse and then jumped in the shower. Afterwards my pores were open and so I applied a thin layer of the Rose Antioxidant Mask and gave it 10 minutes to dry. It cleared, toned and brightened my skin and made me remember the benefits of weekly treatment mask. I must do this more I told myself. And in turn I’m telling you too!
On Tuesday the scenario was similar except this time I was playing Twister in the garden and when the sweat trickled down my back I excused myself and went upstairs, scaled the loft ladder and grabbed my children’s sunhats and glasses. It was needs must in order to look after their precious eyes and skin. I still didn’t grab the summer clothing though, that task could wait a little longer.
By the evening I had checked the weather forecast for the next couple of days and decided that whatever happened I could not bare to wear skinny jeans in the sun for another day. Before I ventured into the loft I decided I’d get my body ‘sunshine ready’. It was about 8pm so I quickly tidied my toenails and cuticles then buffed and filed. I then tackled my limbs, spending a few minutes dry body brushing (if you’ve never done it then an invigorating experience awaits you). This is a satisfying task because if you look closely you can see the skin cells that are ready to lift come away like fine dust. Sounds gross but it’s a natural process. I want my limbs to look bright and healthy. I’m naturally the shade of full fat milk so I at least want to look radiant and alive when I bare my limbs to the village.
Wednesday arrived and yet again it was delightfully warm however, I had spent so long getting my body ready for the sun on Tuesday (I also painted my toenails and applied some soothing Comfrey & Mallow Foot Balm to my feet) that I didn’t get up into the loft for the summer clothes. All was ok though as we were back to thick winter coats by Thursday and apparently there is hail due in York next week!
I will make the most of the long Easter weekend and I will tackle the loft because at the next glimpse of sun I intend to embrace my shorts & dresses so that can I soak up all of the vitamin D and really enjoy being outside.
Next week I will cover off some simple skincare changes you can make to keep your skin fresh & hydrated as the temperature rises and we spend more time outdoors.
Wishing you a restful & happy Easter break.
